Malta’s Sisters

The Maltese islands are situated almost in the centre of the Mediterranean Sea, 288km to the north of Africa and 93km to the south of Sicily, and are made up of 3 main islands. The largest of the three is Malta, followed by Gozo and finally Comino.
The island of Gozo is just as beautiful as its larger sister, Malta. If you are looking for the quiet life, then Gozo is certainly the place. Far away from the noise of places like St Julian’s in Malta, it feels as though time has stood still. Like on the island of Malta, you will find the very delicious pastizzi which are flaky pastry parcels filled with creamy ricotta or mushy peas… yummy! These are traditional, cheap, fast food snacks which are very popular and found everywhere. Surprisingly enough, pasta is not very popular in Gozo, but they do make very good, homemade using goats’ or sheep’s cheese. Here you can explore temples, sample the delicious Cactus Liquor or even visit the place where Daewerys Targayen from “Game of Thrones” got married. How cool is that?
Situated between the larger sister islands Malta and Gozo, sits a baby sister known as the island of Comino. Set away on its own, it has its own little treasures. One in particular is the breathtakingly beautiful Blue Lagoon. With its crystal clear blue waters, it is just perfect for swimming, snorkelling or just floating around on a lilo relaxing. This perfect spot can be reached by little ferries which depart from Marfa in Malta or Mgarr in Gozo. These will also take you around the island to see its beautiful coastline made up of caves and grottos. Word of warning though, it gets very busy in summer.
